Based on a hydrological study of the Oxbow in 2002/03, MREAC explored the potential of stabilizing this site of serious erosion, based on the engineering options suggested and our active partnership with NBDENV, NBDNR, DFO, Parks Canada and Red Bank First Nation. This site is adjacent to and has impacted two National Historic Sites; the Oxbow Village and Augustine (burial) Mounds. Meetings with the various partners and consultants are held for project updates and site remediation design. This site will ultimately be remediated and stabilized to prevent further damage to fish habitat or navigation on the lower end of the Little Southwest Miramichi.
